Starfire Angels (Dark Angel Chronicles #1) by Melanie Nilles Review

4/5 Stars 172 pages
Published December 19th 2013 Prairie Star Publishing

You know how I get, I have a vision of a kind of book in my mind, and I just don’t feel right until I read it. Luckily, it was pretty easy for me to find an angel book in my library, and this one was so interesting I was easily able to dive right into it. A different take on the usual kind of archangel books I’ve read, this one contained a new species of aliens I’ve never read before, ones that look exactly like humans and are able to hide their huge angel wings to blend in. I really enjoyed reading it.

The main character is a girl named Raea, who was orphaned at five years old, but luckily taken in by her aunt and uncle, and two younger cousins. She’s always felt kind of off, but didn’t know why until the topics in this book came up. Turns out she’s actually part of an alien species, and the quiet creepy guy behind her is the only one that can help her. She’s a little immature about the entire situation, wanting to date the hot foreign guy, but what could you ask from a teenager who found out she has mystical powers and insanely huge angel wings? She eventually finds her footing just in time to save her secret.

There is a part that I didn’t really enjoy reading, and that is that there’s a memory that she’s trying to dig out of her brain just so she can know it. While I understand it, I don’t really know why it was added to the story, seeing as it wasn’t important, and I feel like it was just put in there to make you uncomfortable and hate the bad guy in the story more. I didn’t really trust or like him before that, and I feel like the trauma being brought up and just kind of thrown in there wasn’t necessary. Just warning you, if you get upset at the topic of sexual assault than just be warned that they do discuss it in this book. It’s pretty far in, though and it’s really at a time that you wouldn’t expect it.

The story was exciting and the characters were a little cringey at times, but I did enjoy reading it, and I’m interested in the next book after this. I’m hoping that we get to know more about Raea’s family’s home through the portal, and that we get to know more about the species in general. What their language is all about, and what their abilities are all about. Why they are the keepers of alien life forms in crystals and all that. I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re looking for an interesting book about angels to read, and you don’t mind young adult fiction.

Angels of Moirai (Angels of Moirai #1) by Nicole Salmond Review

4/5 Stars 370 Pages Published May 3rd 2015

Are you like me and really just craving a book about angels and demons? I don’t know why, but lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about books like Hush, Hush. I just really wanted to read a young adult book about angels, and that’s exactly what this is. However, this is a lot more romance centered than what I expected.

Lila is a senior in high school. Though she’s from a fabulously wealthy self started family, her and her sister are horribly lonely without their parents around, and that’s how their life has been for most of it. She feels like she’ll never be who her parents want her to be, and that they’ll never fully love her because of it. And this is why we find her at the bottom of the pool holding onto a rock at the beginning of the book.

Though her parents always let her and her sister Hayley down, she’s never going to be like that. She focuses on her school and taking care of the house, that is until she starts having these strange waking dreams about an angel. Little does she know that her life is about to change in an insane way. Especially at the end of the book. The angel from her waking dreams is in fact a real person, and he’s transferred to her school for the remainder of the year.

Honestly, I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I picked this book out for my next read. Full of romance and kind of lacking in any excitement until the last ten percent of the book, I did really enjoy this book because it was something different than what I’ve been reading lately. I wanted a book about angels, and I got one. I’m not usually into slow books like this, but it was a nice relaxing break that I could pick up and put back down, and then pick right back up again. I also enjoyed reading it before bed because of how chill it was.

Again, however, this is another one of those books where the boy is really, really, old and immortal, and the girl is barely eighteen. I can put that aside though, because I can’t believe the insane turn that the end of the book took. I didn’t expect it at all, and if it didn’t happen, I’m not sure I would think about reading the second book in the series. But now? I have to! There’s no discussion about it. I need it in my life.

Overall, if you’re looking for a teen romance book about angels and demons, the angel is named after american singer, song-writer and guitarist James Taylor, and a teenage girl just fighting her way through her classes and contemplating what university to go to, then this is the book for you. I really liked it, and I’m glad I got the chance to check it out.

Thrax (Angelbound Origins #4) by Christina Bauer Review

4/5 Stars 325 pages
Published September 26th 2017 by Monster House Books

The fourth installment in the Angelbound Origins series, Thrax is a mysterious and supernatural story following Myla of course, as she progresses through her life with her one true love, Lincoln. Oh, and she’s pregnant now. You’d think that because of that simple fact, she wouldn’t want to be wanting to fight and tell people off, but of course you’d be wrong. She’s the same old Myla, who we know very well at this point and love. And that’s why I really enjoyed this book.

There’s always a strange supernatural twist to these books, aside from the main plot, and in this one a dark magic version of Lincoln comes through a mirror and not only kidnaps him, but very successfully takes his place in the real world, convincing everyone in the family and the house that Myla is just losing her mind because she’s pregnant.  Which is easy to do when everyone knows she has a wicked temper, and a demonic streak in her. But what they don’t expect

is for her to do anything about it, because of the whole baby situation. And they’re dead wrong. I love her for that.

I’m pretty far into this series now, and I’ve always thought it was very solid in general. The books kind of have the same rhythm to them, Myla being her hot headed self, something bad and new and crazy happens, and then the characters have to work to fix whatever it is, even though it seems hopeless at times. At the end, there’s a big surprise. I really enjoy the books, and getting to know the characters a little more every one. They’re always there for me when I just need something to read that I know is going to be a good time, ahead of time.

If you haven’t read the other books, I would recommend starting from the beginning, because there’s a lot of words that you probably don’t know exactly what they mean, and the characters I think are just better known if you get to know everything about them, you know what I mean? Full of demons and angels and monsters and tons of other things, these books are action packed and just a good time in general. Definitely check it out if you’re looking for something like that. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Pretty Dark Nothing (Pretty Dark Nothing #1) by Heather L. Reid Review

As someone who occasionally has sleeping problems where I stay up for days, this book really called to me. The description was extremely intriguing, claiming that Quinn, a young teenage girl, hasn’t slept a full night in about twenty three days. She’s plagued by shadowy creatures when she does finally sleep, and it started about eighteen months ago when her dad walked out on her and her mother.

The shadows aren’t just scary looking, but they tell her bad things. Taunting her, telling her she’s not good enough, and that her ex boyfriend never liked her. The story is told through the third person viewpoint, and alternates views every other chapter, between Quinn and another teenage boy named Aaron. He doesn’t have the happiest backstory either, after losing his mother and little sister in a car accident that he was present for, he almost lost his life as well. His father is a grief stricken alcoholic, and his little brother does whatever he wants. He’s not ready to be a parent, but he has to be for the sake of his family.

Though this seems like just another teen romance book from the drama that encapsulates the characters, it’s so much more than that. Yes, it has the makings of the those kind of books, but this story has angels, demons, the afterlife, and even death in it. I  really enjoyed getting to know the characters  and their “powers”, if you could call them that, and I had a very easy time picturing them reacting with the world they’re in. This was a book that I got and forgot about, and I wish I would have read it sooner because it’s really an interesting tale.

Get “Archangel’s Kiss” (Cursed Angels #1) by Anna Santos Free!

I’m sitting here with my cat sleeping beside me, The Office playing in the background, and all I can think of is what a beautiful blue this book’s cover is. I seriously want my hair that colour.

37766381._SY475_Anyways, I found this book and thought I would share it with you. Not just a pretty cover, the description claims that: “Aria loses her humanity after being saved by a monster she believed only to exist in horror stories. But everything isn’t what it seems when her savior becomes a handsome angel prince who awakened her ancient and deadly powers.

“Powers that can destroy the world, or save it. Only true love can break the prince’s curse and stop him from turning into stone for all eternity. Despite the overwhelming chemistry between Aria and the prince, they only have thirty days to fall in love before their bond is put to the test.

“Peril strikes in the form of an addictive drug that can kill vampires and angels are to blame. Conflict is blooming and the peace treaty between the Angel Prince and the Vampire King is threatened.”

Though this book has a much longer description on Goodreads, I think this sums it up well enough. Published in 2018, this book has 85 reviews, and holds an average of 3.9 stars. This gives me hope for it, because it really does seem like there’s a lot going on.

Lincoln (Angelbound Origins #1.5) by Christina Bauer Review

Lincoln (Angelbound Origins #1.5) by Christina Bauer 4/5 Stars 300 pages
Published February 24th 2019 by Monster House Books LLC

I feel like I often have to revisit this series after long breaks. Not only because I want to space it out, but because the books often come out of order, and I don’t want to miss anything. This book, is either book 1.5 or 2, depending on where you look, and it’s basically Angelbound, the first book, but from Lincoln’s point of view. That being said, I was a little confused why Duty Bound was at the beginning of this, when it was already released as it’s own novella and I had already read it, but I did enjoy reading this new installment.

Lincoln has a cushy life as the Prince of Thrax, but also a hard life as probably the best demon hunter out there. It begins with him doing what he does best, fighting demons, and trying to adjust to his new life in Purgatory, surrounded by Quasi-Demons and Ghouls. He’s not very happy about it, but what can he do? He’s about to begin a loveless marriage with a girl he hardly knows. His life seems bleak, that is, until he meets Myla, a Quasi-Demon warrior girl with a dragon scale tail who begins to sneak onto his property to fight demons.

He’s immediately drawn to her, though his family’s disgust with demons changes his judgement. He knows he must protect her from the wrath of the Tithe, as Prince of the Thrax, but doesn’t know how to without causing problems with his own people. That’s when he begins hatching secret plans to keep her around him without seeming too obvious. He knows that she’s the girl for him, no matter what his people think.

I was excited to see more than just a novella with Lincoln as the viewpoint, as I really enjoyed getting to know him better. I remember him being kind of quiet in the other books, though he is a big part of them, but I was glad to see there’s more to him than just hanging around Myla and being the Prince of Thrax. This book was kind of a long read, not only because of the novella at the beginning, but because of every event in Angelbound being told from the other side. I felt like I had read it all before, and wasn’t impressed when I started the book, but as it turned out I really got into it. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has in store for me, as well as Myla and Lincoln.

If you’re into books about the supernatural such as Angels, Demons, Quasi-Demons, Ghouls, Ghosts and more, set in Purgatory, Heaven, Hell, Earth as well as the newly added Dark Lands, than this series is the one for you. I don’t think you have to have read Angelbound to really get what’s going on in this one, but I think if you want to really see the full picture, you should. Definitely check it out if you think it’s something you’ll like.

And Then There Were Crows (Shades of Hell #1) by Alcy Leyva Review

38235901
And Then There Were Crows (Shades of Hell #1) by Alcy Leyva 3/5 Stars 280 pages Published July 3rd 2018 by Black Spot Books

Amanda Grey just wants to save her family home. Living in a small New York apartment, her parents not only left her alone, but left her an immense amount of money to watch the house while they’re gone. As a twenty something year old woman, this shouldn’t be a problem, after all she loves being by herself anyways. That is, until she gets months behind on the rent. That’s when things start to pile up on her. It becomes just another thing to worry about, after attacking her, a man disintegrates into crows before her eyes.

She then meets a demon, and an angelic being, and must go off of her adventure to save the world before the crows can spawn worse things around the city. Although I like the characters and the idea of the story, I just couldn’t keep my attention on it. The writing was great, I just think that they story wasn’t as attention grabbing as I originally thought it was going to be.

I did, however, like how gory the book was. For a young woman, she gets jumped a lot by demons, and in the first person viewpoint, she must defend herself using whatever means necessary to protect the planet, and humanity as a whole. I liked that there was kind of a cult aspect to it, alongside the angels and demons, but like I said, I just couldn’t get into it.

That being said, I do think it has the potential to have a lot of fans. Just because I didn’t love this book specifically doesn’t mean you won’t. If you think you’ll like it, definitely give it a try and check it out.

The book is available here, and here’s a link to the author’s Twitter, if you’d like to keep up on them.
