How do you feel about comic books that have been turned into TV shows?

I hope everyone’s having a really good day!

So this question might seem random, I’m really bring it up because I just finished watching Happy! on Netflix because it finally came on there.

It’s something I read last year, and I really loved it. Following an ex-detective named Nick Sax, it shows his life as he goes from an almost nobody who just gets drunk all the time to kicking ass and almost no time at all. He joins up with an imaginary friend named Happy who is a blue unicorn from a kids TV show, who he really doesn’t believe in at first, as they go on a brave adventure to save his lost daughter.

Overall I like when I see comic books that I have read previously get turned into works of art like movies and TV shows because I just love seeing it come to life. Some may not be exactly what I want like maybe the new Titans for instance but I still enjoy watching it.

Something I would love to see as a movie or TV show, is Prism Stalker. I think with the effects that they have out for stuff like that would really do that comic nicely, and the story itself is really interesting.

What are your thoughts on this topic? I’d love to hear what you’d like to see on TV.

Disney Manga: Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. by Hiromi Yamafuji Review

Disney Manga: Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. by Hiromi Yamafuji 5/5 Stars 144 pages
Published January 1st 2019 by TokyoPop

I’d like to start off by saying, that I’ve heard a lot of people don’t like these, and while their opinion is valid, I just love these enough for all of us. Based off of kids movies, this is the third Disney Pixar Manga that I’ve read, and I think they’re so cute, and perfect for children as well as adults. If you want something easy to read, exactly like the movie, then this and Wall-E are the best for you, however, if you like spin off stories about the movies, then The Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero’s Journey is more your style.

If you haven’t seen the movie, the book is about a world where monsters rule the world, and the human world is completely separate, only connected through closet doors. No two doors are the same, and no two people or monsters are the same. The main ones we see in this, are a team named Sulley and Mike. The monster world runs off of children’s screams, so one of the biggest jobs are doing exactly that, making human children scream by scaring them.

Their world is in an energy crisis, however, and everyone is breaking their back to keep up with what they need. The monsters, although they’re amazing at scaring, are just as scared of the kids, as the kids are of them. If anything even so much as touches them outside their door, a government team in radiation suits are called in to decontaminate.

If you have seen the movie, it’s exactly like it. I would say about 75% of the scene’s made it into this, and I loved it. I wasn’t expecting anything new out of this, so I got exactly what I wanted, and I’m sure if you read it, you will too. My favourite character, is probably Mike or Sulley, and Boo of course. The dream team. This book made me want to watch the movie again.

Moving and Books

Hope everyone’s having a good day!!

Recently found out I’m moving, and my bookshelves are packed full of books. You never realize how much work it is the actually have paper copies until you have to move 😂

One thing I’m having a hard time with, is picking what books to bring before I start bringing down all of my books. I have so many, and so many unread ones that its a difficult decision.

How do you pack the books in a way that’s safe for them but still light? I’ve been half packing the boxes and then stuffing the rest of it with clothes or stuffed animals.

I can’t wait to set up my bookshelves again, and more importantly, I can’t wait to document it on here. Anyone have a good way for organizing a bookshelf they feel like sharing?

Anyways, that’s all I really have to say.

Into the Fire by Sonia Orchard Review

Into the Fire by Sonia Orchard 5/5 Stars 288 pages
Published January 29th 2019 by Affirm Press

If you’re looking for a slow burn book with the most realistic characters I’ve ever read about, than “Into The Fire” is the book for you. I honestly wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into when I started this book, but by the end I was completely sucked into it and couldn’t believe what I was reading. Lara’s world changed the day her best friend Alice died, but what she learns after will change everything.

Something I loved about this book, and that I don’t really get in other books, is the rich backstory we get on the characters. I would say about seventy five percent of the book is pure backstory, and I thought that was really interesting. We don’t really get to see much of present day Lara until we need to. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters, told through Lara’s memories.

The story follows Lara and Alice of course, from Lara’s point of view, and then later Crow, and eventually Alice’s children. When Alice died in a house fire, no one handled it very well. Not that you would expect them to. Crow was left alone with their three children, and Lara felt like her death was completely her fault.

One of the most interesting things about this story, I would say, is that the plot twist isn’t until the very last page. And let me tell you, I had no idea it was coming. Books like these make me glad I’ve been branching out and trying to read all kinds of stories, because if I would have just kept reading the same genre’s of books over and over, I would never have gotten to read this one, and I think it’s one of the best books I’ve read so far this year.

Definitely check this book out, and read until the end, even if you think you’re not into it. If you’re someone like me, I can promise you that you’ll love this book, and you might even pick yourself up a paper copy for your shelf, like I want to. The writing in this book is so smooth and the story just flows along like the best kind of journal, and I really felt like I was inside Lara’s head. For hours after I finished this, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. And that’s really all I need to say. Check it out if you get the chance.

Alien Bounty Hunter: Volume 1 by Adrian F. Wassel, David M. Booher, F.J. DeSanto, Stephen Levinson, Damian A. Wassel, & Nick Robles Review

Alien Bounty Hunter: Volume 1 by Adrian F. Wassel, David M. Booher, F.J. DeSanto, Stephen Levinson, Damian A. Wassel, & Nick Robles 5/5 Stars 160 pages
Published January 8th 2019 by Vault Comics

“Alien Bounty Hunter” is a new and exciting comic featuring a man they call Madsen, an extremely good bounty hunter. Although it begins with a base in Alaska being compromised by an alien specimen who’s used it’s own bacteria to create a bioweapon inside it’s own arm, and is clearly dangerous. They need someone to come in and capture it before anything happens, and that person is Madsen, after he learns he will not be getting paid for his work with human bounty hunting anymore. The alien, however, is not what anyone expects.

The art in this book is just amazing, as you can see from the cover, and even though a lot of the characters speak different languages, Madsen has a translator that easily tells you what they’re saying, most of the time. This story is exciting, and I didn’t want to put it down for a second in case I missed something.

My absolute favourite part is when one of the characters tells a story about a little girl who is starving and dying of thirst with her family, tells herself that she’s a tree, she can’t feel either of those things. One day she wakes up and can’t move, and can’t speak, because she’s literally turned into a tree, and her siblings come and chop her down to build a house. The lesson was, and here’s a direct quote, “spoken enough times the girl became her lie, but the lie did not serve her.” I just thought that was really interesting, and although it wasn’t a necessary part of the story, it really stood out for me.

I loved this book and would love to buy a copy for my bookshelf, it’s one of those one’s I’d love to read again when I have some spare time. If you like exciting stories about aliens and humans together, you’re going to love this book, and you should definitely check it out if you get a chance.

Cellies, Vol. 1 by Joe Flood, & Davis Stuart II Review

Cellies, Vol. 1 by Joe Flood, & Davis Stuart II 5/5 Stars 128 pages
Published January 15th 2019 by Lion Forge

If you’re looking for the most laid back graphic novel you’ll probably ever read, then Cellies is the book for you. Following a team of tech support and customer service workers at a local strip mall, it shows their everyday live and what they get up to, as well as the lighter side of working with your friends. It’s mainly centered on six characters, Devin, Christian, Parker, Pete and Rey as well as Elena, the newbie.

Beginning with an intricate online video game, Devin is late for work. He forgot about the midnight launch of the newest cell phone on the market, and when he realizes what time it is, he rushes to get ready and get to his job. Outside is a mob of people waiting for their new phones. Unfortunately for them, the phones will have to be delayed for another month, which causes them to break out into a riot out in front of the store.

Not only is this book funny and relatable for anyone reading it, the characters really seem like real people that you’d like to work with. They work, skip work, go to school, worry about their relationships with people, and go on adventures just like anyone would. My favourite character probably would be Elena or Rey, because they’re both really sweet but in their own ways.

Overall there’s many stories in this book, and they’re broken up with mini stories about retail worker’s true nightmares, which I found hilarious. I’m really hoping that there will be a second volume, and if you’re looking for something completely out of the norm from your usual reading routine, I’d say that this is the book for you.

Trouble picking what to read next?

I feel like I have this problem all the time. With all the books I have on my currently reading list, I always feel lost at where to pick up the next one, when I’m looking to read something that isn’t coming out right away. My ARC website lists? My entire shelf of paper copies I haven’t read? My ereaders and reading apps? It’s a little overwhelming at times.

Here’s what I’ve been trying to do lately.

Read one book from one list, and try to work through one at a time. For instance, I might be trying to do my email list, alternating between that and my ARC website lists, and if I have time, maybe a paperback or two a week.

Now, my reading goal isn’t as ambitious as it was a few months ago, when I was reading 5 books a week. I have stuff to do that isn’t books, and although I would like to read that much right now, it’s just not really an option, but that will change. I’m just glad I’m not falling behind on my posts as bad as I did previous weeks.

Anyways, what I’m trying to say is that if you’re feeling overwhelmed because of your lists and books and workload you set yourself, it’s okay because it’ll change.

Thanks for reading.

Mind Detox: Discover and Resolve the Root Causes of Chronic Conditions and Persistent Problems by Sandy C. Newbigging Review

Mind Detox: Discover and Resolve the Root Causes of Chronic Conditions and Persistent Problems by Sandy C. Newbigging 5/5 Stars 224 pages
Published January 15th 2019 by Findhorn Press

If this book taught me anything, it’s just how much your emotions really effect your day to day life as well as your health. I know I’ve kind of been on a self help book kick lately, and although I wasn’t sure I would like them at first, I’ve really gotten into them, and noticed that a lot of non-fiction is actually really interesting despite what I’ve thought in the past.

Mind Detox is something that claims that it will benefit everyone who reads it. I wasn’t sure that was true before I started it, but I feel like I’ve actually learned a lot about my emotions. Not only does it teach you how your body reacts to your emotions, but it also gives you a ton of ways to stay calm, achieve inner peace, and really just feel better.

I found a lot of really nice quotes in this book, ones that I want to remember. “To increase health, we must decrease stress.” is just one that sounded important, so I thought that I should write it down. I also learned that relationships should be for giving love first rather than getting love, which feels like something a lot of people should know. This book is about removing the bad feelings from your memories, and learning to detach enough so that you don’t associate your daily life with those feelings. The other thing that it’s about, is learning to work through your emotions, and that it’s okay to feel those things, just put a positive spin on it, and learn to let things go easily.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and I think if you need to read something that will help you grow or help you become a more positive person, than this is the book you need to read next. Books like this make me want to read more on the same kind of topics. Definitely check it out if you get a chance.

Confessions of an ARC-aholic

Hey! Hope everyone’s having a good day.

I know, I’m starting early, and I’m determined to get all my posts out this week! Wish me luck. That being said, I noticed that I can’t seem to get my currently reading list back to a more manageable size, and I think there’s one huge reason for that.

That reason is that I’m addicted to going through arcs. Whether it’s on Netgalley or Edelweiss, or even just books I’m getting in the mail, I can’t stop thinking about them, and I can’t stop requesting them. Anyone else understand my problem?

One reason for that might be that I never want to run out of new content to post, but I often find so many books that I want to read that I can’t read them all for their publishing dates. I’ve been trying to stay more positive, and keep it to one or two per publishing date in addition to my three reviews per week, but even then I have trouble picking which ones I want to post!

There’s just so many books, and so little time. I want to read them all, but honestly who has time for that? I love doing what I do, but it gets a little overwhelming at times.

I’m sure there are people out there who understand how I feel, and I applaud you for your efforts trying to keep up with all the books, it’s like a full time job!

While I keep trying to whittle down my reading list, I can’t help but scroll through the catalogs. I’ve made one big change to my reading schedule, and that is that I’m going to start reading paper copies of ARC’s before anything so that I don’t fall behind! I think that’ll be a fun change for the new year.

Anyways, thanks for letting me talk. I love books and I love my blog. I love you too!

Quickly before I end this post however, I would like to get your opinion on something.

Would you like to see more of me, the girl behind the blog, or would you prefer I keep in mysterious? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear your opinion on it.

Thanks for reading!

Stellar, Vol. 1 by Joseph Keatinge, & Bret Blevins Review

40016003
Stellar, Vol. 1 by Joseph Keatinge, & Bret Blevins 4/5 Stars 128 pages
Published January 22nd 2019 by Image Comics

If your next read looks like a beautifully drawn and action packed alternate reality/space mystery story, filled with aliens you’ve never imagined before, then it’s probably “Stellar”. Following a woman named, you guessed it, Stellar, we first meet her when she’s leading around a huge vaguely insect alien on a chain. Though, this beginning honestly doesn’t even come close to the middle, or the ending of this book. It’s something you really have to stick with, though the slightly muted and insanely detailed art inside makes that easy.

Her origin story is that she fell out of the sky, and has been working to protect the planet from her own kind of people. Later than that however, is my favourite story, and that’s the part about alternate realities. It’s just so much different than the rest of the book, even, that it’s the part that stood out the most in my mind.

Stellar is a strong character, not only fighting aliens but also her own kind in space and on land, even fighting her own past at one point. This story isn’t something I’ll forget any time soon and I’d love to have a copy for my bookshelf. I also love her hair and would love to know how she gets it so white. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you love books that make you go, “ew, gross, hey come look at this.”
