“Mirenda” is a beautifully put together story without any words. I think in the entire book, there’s only maybe three lines of text at the most. What really drew me to this, was the cover, and the art. That’s a really important thing when there aren’t any words, and this book had amazing art. The places surrounding the characters were always changing, and just so interesting to look at I couldn’t put it down. It’s just so nice to look at, some of it is so strange and kind of trippy looking. I really enjoyed seeing it all together.
A woman lives in the forest, and she has a demon trapped in her leg. It changes the way that she sees things, and eventually starts helping her make decisions at dire times. A man tries to get it out, but it’s not as simple as that. She finds a group of people who are very interested in her, feeding her and taking care of her, but one day they attack her and a different woman saves her, so they run off together.
Reading this book was a really interesting experience for me, because it kind of made me feel deaf. Because there aren’t any words, you have to decipher what’s really going on, how everything got there, and what they’re planning on doing next, and that’s a lot different than honestly any other book I’ve read this year. I did spend a lot of time thinking, what’s happening? And that was scary. But I think maybe that was the point. Maybe that’s not how the woman felt, but the feeling in general made me notice a lot of other things, like the way the surroundings changed, and how the other people acted around her. Especially how the demon came out of her leg at just the right time.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I hope that other people find this book just as interesting as I do. Though it is a little difficult to navigate, I think it’ll be something I remember for a long time. It’s available here, and here’s a link to the creator’s Twitter.
