Have you been missing your favourite characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas? Well here’s your chance to see them back in action again! Zero feels like Jack is too busy for him, and decides to go off on an adventure of his own. Only this time, it’s him going off into Christmas Town!

Zero is a favourite of a lot of ours, I’m sure. He’s a cute ghost dog with a little jack ‘o’ lantern nose, and he needs a lot of attention, as he’s still a dog. We really get to see everyone we know and love back at it again, chipping in to help Jack find him. The art in this book is so heartwarming and cute, I can’t help but feel happy when I’m reading it, even though some sad things do happen to the little dog.

I know this is marketed as a kids book, but as a 21 year old, I can vouch that it’s suitable for any age of person who loved the original movie. I’m so glad to see everyone again, and they’re just represented so nicely in this. I would love to have a copy of it on my bookshelf for when I need cheering up. My favourite part would probably be seeing Zero actually act like a dog and try to eat everyone’s food. Definitely check this out if you’re a fan of the movie and get the chance. The book is available here, and here are link’s to the creators Twitters.

Unboxing of The Expedition (The Initiation #2) by Chris Babu

Hey! Hope everyone’s having a good day.

Originally I had made a video for this, but I can’t upload it right now. I hope pictures are just as exciting.

20181029_175837.jpgAfter reading the first book, I was extremely excited for the next one in the series. Thankfully, I received the second book in the mail a few weeks ago. I just got around to opening it, and I’m stoked to start it.

20181029_180100.jpg

The book came in a super snug box, and arrived perfectly intact. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful green cover. I can’t even begin to imagine what will happen in this one!

I forgot to take a picture of it, but the book came signed also, which I love! I’m obsessed with books, and having a personally signed one just makes it so much better. Thanks for sending it my way! I’ll check it out as soon as possible.

Thanks for reading! I’ll try to upload videos in the future, along with the one for this book. It’s just so much more exciting working on and editing a video!

Have a good night!

Isola, Vol. 1 (Isola #1-5) by Brenden Fletcher, Karl Kerschl, & Msassyk Review

“Isola” is a haunting and beautifully done comic following a queen and her guard. Though I’m not really sure how to describe the kind of story this is, there’s a lot going on and yet there’s not a lot of information about it. A woman who will do all she can to protect her queen, who’s a lion for most of the story. It’s bloody and violent at times, but for most of it I kind of just felt like I was dreaming. Is that weird to say? That’s the only way I can describe it. I loved it.

My favourite part of this is book is how emotional everything seemed to be with very little speech and information. It was the perfect size, too, and I read it in one sitting with no problems. I say this all the time, but this comic is something completely different than any of the other one’s I’ve read lately. The ending was just amazing and I never saw it coming. I really enjoyed that we didn’t get to know a lot of backstory for this, and that’s something I can’t say very often.

Overall, I’m really glad I read this book. If you’re looking for something unique and really interesting, this is the book for you. It’s available here, and here are links to the creator’s Twitters.

Defying Limits: Lessons from the Edge of the Universe by Dave Williams Review

Defying Limits: Lessons from the Edge of the Universe
by Dave Williams 5/5 Stars 240 pages
Published October 30th 2018 by Simon Schuster

“Defying Limits” by Dr. Dave Williams is an inspiring story with so many good quotes. It’s something you should live by, not just a book you should read. It follows the life of Dr. Dave as he goes from a small town Canadian boy, who dreams of flying into space, to an emergency room doctor, to a full blown astronaut throughout his life.

This book made me realize just how many big time Canadian astronauts there are. The prologue itself, is something you should live by. It recounts his time repairing the Canadarm2, thinking about how time is the most precious thing in the world. After all, you can live a lifetime in a day, and you don’t want to let your life pass you by. It’ll be over quicker than you think.

When he first saw a space launch, he was seven years old. It was the 1960’s, a much different time than now, and when he asked his parents if he could do that one day, they told him it would be cool, but they didn’t think Canada even had a space program. Time’s have changed, and after several career changes, he landed his dream job after starting a family.

This book is amazing, not only because of his life story, but because it shows what’s inside the life of an astronaut. Recounting all of his training, I found the book extremely interesting, and couldn’t put it down once I started it. I didn’t use to love non-fiction books, but because of ones like these I can really look forward to the next one I pick out. Anything about space I love, but I really feel proud hearing about astronauts from my own country going so far in life. After reading this, I immediately followed Dr. Dave on Twitter. Here’s where you can get the book, and here’s a link to his own personal Twitter account so you can keep up with him too. Definitely check out this book if you get the chance.

If you’re like me and wondering how to be more eco friendly and less wasteful in life, then this book is for both of us. When I saw it, I thought, wow what an interesting recipe book. Inside, however, is so much more. Between the colourful and crystal clear pictures, and the imaginative recipes, are heartwarming family stories. This book is an absolute joy to read, and I really felt good when I was finished. I can’t wait to try out some of the recipes.

This book just seems like such a good idea, I couldn’t pass it up. It teaches you not only what ingredients are important for each of the recipes, but also how to store your food longer, and how to compost, which let’s admit, I had no clue about starting. It has some really interesting tips in it that I’d love to try out for myself, for instance, did you know that celery stays fresh longer when stored in aluminum foil, and while the foil itself isn’t eco friendly, you can get many uses out of it before recycling it? Also, that onions are best stored tied up in the legs of pantyhose hanging in a dark closet?

Overall I really enjoyed reading this book, and the recipes while a little strange are really interesting and look delicious in the pictures. I’m excited to try some of them out, some that really seemed to jump out to me were banana peel cake with peanut butter frosting, bacon tomato jam, and tomato skin salt, which is crazy to me because I didn’t know making your own flavoured salt was a thing people do. It sounds awesome. This book really got me hooked from the moment I saw it, and the cover, like the book, is really simplistic and beautiful. I hope that the author writes more books like this. The book is available here.

Slender Man by Anonymous Review

Slender Man by Anonymous 5/5 Stars 336 pages
Published October 23rd 2018 by Harper Voyager

Following a high school aged boy named Matthew, this creepy story is written in not only journal form, but also switches between audio recordings, emails, newspaper articles, reddit posts, texts, police interview transcripts, and pages of the character’s own fictional story. It begins when he starts seeing a therapist, going to her every Tuesday after school with the hopes of fixing the nightmares that plague his nights.

But after a girl at his school goes missing suddenly, without a trace, everything starts to change for Matthew. He never used to be able to remember his dreams, but lately they’re starting to get more and more strange. Birds begin flying into his balcony window, killing themselves. He starts having horrifying hallucinations. He turns to the only people he can trust with his secrets, strangers on the internet. Though we never really get to meet him face to face, just the mere mention of Slender Man begins to tear apart Matthew and the people around him.

This book is perfect if you’re looking for something chilling and creepy to end your October with. I wouldn’t say it’s particularly horrifying, but it’s really engaging and interesting. The story seems very real, and it’s a lot different than other books I’ve read because of the many ways it’s told throughout the book. I really enjoyed reading this not only because of the story, but because the characters are just really interesting and real. They talk a lot about how things that aren’t really out there in the real world, can still affect people in their day to day lives, and I think that deep down that’s the main message of the story. I would love to have a copy of it for my bookshelf. The book is available here.

Shifters and Glyphs (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #2) by Christina Bauer Review

Shifters and Glyphs (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #2) by Christina Bauer 5/5 Stars 350 pages
Published October 16th 2018 by Monster House Books

If you loved the first book, you’re going to love this next book. Shifters and Glyphs is the second full length novel in the Fairy Tales of the Magicorum series, and it’s everything I hoped for it to be. Following Bryar Rose, she’s relaxing with her new indestructible outfit that she got in the last novella, with her boyfriend. Tomorrow is her first ever day of school, she’s always been home schooled and she has no idea what to expect.

Except lately, Knox hasn’t been feeling very good, and it might be because of Bry. Bryar has been deciphering the ancient papyrus like she always does, but this time it’s much different. All signs point towards the magic fountain, and the fall equinox. The only thing, is that it’s in five days. That’s a little stressful on top of everything else, don’t you think?

This book takes place within those five days. Bryar of course is the main character, alone with Elle, Alec, Knox, and Colonel Mallory. Together they travel to Paris and Egypt to once again save the world. It’s action packed, and I couldn’t put it down once I started it. The characters have really been growing through the series and I love that. They’re the same people they’ve always been, but better.

I think my favourite part of the book was that it really dived deep into the world around the magic. I learned so many things about it that I didn’t expect to, like the history and traditions. I especially enjoyed getting to know Colonel Mallory a lot better, he’s such an interesting character and I’m glad I got the chance to.

Overall I don’t think that you absolutely need to read the other books in the series to read this one, they kind of flow together and sum each other up well, but if you want to get the full force of the series I think you should read them all. If you like books where most of the supernatural elements are put to the test in one series, werewolves, witches and warlocks, and fairies, this is the series for you. After finishing this book, I honestly can’t wait to see what comes next. The book is available here, and here’s a link to the author’s Twitter.

House of Falling Embers by Krystal Jane Ruin Review

House of Falling Embers
by Krystal Jane Ruin 5/5 Stars 352 pages
Published October 1st 2018 by The Narcissistic Rose

“House of Falling Embers” is a book that really stood out to me, not only because of the beautiful cover, but also because of the description. It just sounded so different and interesting, that I couldn’t pass up reading it next. At just over 350 pages, this book is a smooth and easy read, and I loved every single page.

When Artemis was a young girl, she had a boyfriend named Aris. She was really into scary stories, especially one that her grandfather told her. It was about a witch who was just trying to keep people out of her house. Instead, however, she ended up locking herself in, along with anyone who happened to come inside. As children, they thought nothing of the story, until they stumbled upon the house one day in the woods. And that’s the day everything changed.

Artemis, devastated after Aris goes missing, tries very hard to move on after the incident. She moves away from the town, she gets a new job, a new boyfriend, and a new house. But she’s forever haunted by what actually happened that night, even as an adult. But she knows in her heart that he still has to be out there somewhere.

This book is amazing, and I really think it’s one of my new favourites, and I want to read more by the author in the future. I didn’t expect to love it this much, but the characters are just so real, battling all kinds of demons and handling everything really well. The world they live in is pretty much exactly like our own, only with better opportunities. Artemis is plagued by something she tries hard not to remember, but it begins to tear apart her day to day life. After her new boyfriend Link, moves them back into Aris’s old house, it becomes something she can’t ignore.

Moonlight And Midtown (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #1.5) by Christina Bauer Review

Moonlight And Midtown (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #1.5) by Christina Bauer 5/5 Stars 125 pages
Published May 27th 2018 by Monster House Books

Set four weeks after the last book, Bryar Rose is somewhat adjusting to her new form. But being a werewolf is tearing her room, and her wardrobe apart, quite literally. She’s been locking herself in her apartment, so she doesn’t hurt anyone when she shifts. This book is very short, and satisfied my need to know more about the series well.

Things are happening though, the magic is starting to become the opposite of what it once was, and there’s an enemy sometime in the future that’s going to be worse than anything they’ve faced before. Knox is wanted as a pack leader, but doesn’t want to be in a pack. Bry needs to figure out how the magic inside of her works, and although they seem a little old for school, that’s what they’re going to have to do to learn how to live in the world around them. And I can’t wait for it.

Overall i really enjoyed reading this, and I read through it really fast. If you love teen stories about magic and werewolves and fairies, you’re especially going to enjoy this series. Though I wouldn’t say you definitely have to read the first book to read this one, you’re definitely going to enjoy it more if you do, because that’s just how series of books work. The book is available here, and here’s a link to the author’s Twitter.
