White Dancing Elephants by Chaya Bhuvaneswar 4/5 Stars 208 Pages Published October 9th 2018 by Dzanc Books

“White Dancing Elephants” is a collection of short stories by author Chaya Bhuvaneswar, following all different kinds of people. Though it doesn’t contain beginnings and ends, this is a book full of middles. You don’t need to know everything about everyone, just enough to get the gist of the story before moving onto the next one in under twenty five pages each.

Inside there are strong characters. Some facing hard topics like cancer, miscarriage, affairs and abuse, and others facing even supernatural topics. Every story is engaging, and easy to follow. They seem like they could very well be real people, and that’s exactly what I was hoping for. Told in varying perspectives, some narrating, some showing what they’ve been through, through their own eyes this book is a smooth ride through and through.

Not every person is the same, and I think these sixteen stories really show that very nicely. In about two hundred pages, this book is a quick read, and one that you won’t regret picking up. If you’re looking for short stories about mostly real topics, and people with real flaws, this book is for you. Definitely check it out if you get the chance. The book is available here, and here’s a link to the author’s Twitter.
